Recipe Ingredient

  • 1 tbsp Marmite vegetarian yeast extract
  • 1½ tsp castor sugar
  • 4 tbsp maltose (mak nga tong)
  • 1 tbsp thick soy sauce
  • 2 tsp vegetarian belacan powder
  • 120ml water
  • Thickening – (combined)
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a non-stick saucepan and cook over low heat until it comes to a simmering boil for 1-2 minutes. Stir in thickening to mix.

    I tried the recipe below for Hae Ko from kuali.com, it doesn’t turn out the same taste, can anyone let me know how to cook hae ko for Assam Laksa? Thanks

    I found that substituting the marmite for Miso paste produces a much better experience as it has better depth of flavour.
