Recipe Ingredient

  • 300g pork belly
  • 2 tbsp toasted groundnuts, coarsely ground
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese Five Spice powder
  • 1/8 tsp thick soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp cornflour
  • Sauce
  • 1 tbsp maltose (mak nga tong)
  • 3 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 100ml water

Instructions

  1. Slice off pork skin and trim the excess fat. Cut meat into cubes. Marinate with seasoning ingredients for at least 3-4 hours or preferably overnight in the refrigerator. Deep-fry marinated pork in hot oil over medium-low heat until meat is cooked. Dish out and leave on several pieces of crushed kitchen paper towels.
  2. Combine the sauce ingredients in a non-stick saucepan. Simmer gently for a while.
  3. Return pork to the saucepan and cook with the sauce. Simmer until sauce turns syrupy and thick. Sprinkle in combined groundnuts and sesame seeds. Toss well.
