Recipe Ingredient

  • Syrup (A)
  • 125g castor sugar
  • 50ml water
  • Ingredients (B)
  • 1 small egg, lightly beaten
  • 45ml corn oil
  • 280g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 tsp double-action baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Ingredient (C)
  • 100g sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients (A) in a small nonstick pan. Stir and cook until sugar dissolves. Remove to a bowl and leave to cool.
  2. Sift the plain flour, bicarbonate of soda and baking powder together. Put the sifted ingredients and salt into a mixing bowl. Make a well in the centre and pour in the cooled syrup. Stir to mix then add beaten egg and corn oil. Mix into a dough.
  3. Divide dough into small portions. Roll lightly into a ball and coat with sesame seeds. Heat oil in a wok, drop the sesame-coated balls in and fry until golden brown. Dish out and drain well.
