- Syrup (A)
- 125g castor sugar
- 50ml water
- Ingredients (B)
- 1 small egg, lightly beaten
- 45ml corn oil
- 280g plain flour
- 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp double-action baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Ingredient (C)
- 100g sesame seeds
Instructions
- Combine ingredients (A) in a small nonstick pan. Stir and cook until sugar dissolves. Remove to a bowl and leave to cool.
- Sift the plain flour, bicarbonate of soda and baking powder together. Put the sifted ingredients and salt into a mixing bowl. Make a well in the centre and pour in the cooled syrup. Stir to mix then add beaten egg and corn oil. Mix into a dough.
- Divide dough into small portions. Roll lightly into a ball and coat with sesame seeds. Heat oil in a wok, drop the sesame-coated balls in and fry until golden brown. Dish out and drain well.
