RICE lovers can head to Vistana Hotel Kuala Lumpur’s Vistana restaurant which is having a rice promotion this month.

The promotion which ends on April 9 offers five different types of rice dishes.

“Every month we will have a different promotion for the guests. We try to have this to give variety to our guests instead of just the usual ala carte hotel coffeehouse dishes,” said Vistana chef de partie Hamdan Harun.

“The rice promotion or variety is our third this year. Our guests liked the first two varieties so we decided to have this third one,” he said. The first for this year was the noodles promotion and this was followed by Chinese wok dishes or Tai Chau.

“For the ongoing promotion, we are offering all local rice dishes with one Chinese cuisine rice dish, one from the Malay cuisine, one from Thai cuisine and two from Indian cuisine. We have all this so everyone from a whole family can try something.” said Hamdan.

The first of the five dishes is the Cita Rasa Malaysia flavoured rice dish which is pandan- flavoured rice served with Grilled Sambal Mackeral, Ayam Percik and Tangy Acar Rampai.

“This dish is more of an east coast delicacy. Many people like this dish but we do not have it here normally,” said Hamdan.

The second dish is the Claypot Chicken Rice rice cooked in a claypot with marinated chicken, salted fish and dried mushroom.

“This dish is a local Chinese dish. It is quite common in restaurants and hawker stalls in Kuala Lumpur,” added Hamdan.

The third dish is the Thai Style Claypot Rice which is spicy Thai flavoured rice cooked in a claypot with chunks of chicken, oyster mushroom, cauliflower and onion.

“This is quite similar to the Chinese version but we added a little Thai twist to the dish. The dish has commonly used Thai ingredients which gives it a Thai taste,” said Hamdan.

The last two dishes are both from the Indian cuisine which is the Indian Chicken and Lamb Beriyani.

The Indian Chicken and Lamb Beriyani are long grain rice served with chicken or tender lamb slices and vegetables infused together with exotic Indian spices. The rice is also served with Aloo Ghobi, Papadam and Raita.

Each of the rice promotion dish with the exception of the Lamb Beriyani is priced at RM22++. The Lamb Beriyani is priced at RM25++.

The rice promotion also comes with a complimentary dessert which is Tapai Ice Cream.

The Tapai is traditionally fermented glutinous rice topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. “We chose Tapai for dessert as this is a rice promotion and Tapai is a rice-based dish,” said Hamdan.
