IT WAS love at first sight the moment the Tower of Seafood comprising sashimi, sushi, prawns, mussels and oysters arrived as our first course.

Candle light: From Senses, the Chocolate Candle is litat the table allowing the white chocolate candle to melt slowly as you indulge in this fabulous Valrhona Caramelia Chocolate,Caramelized Cocoa Nibs &Chocolate Consomme.

Half a lemon accentuated with balsamic vinegar, wasabi and perilla completes this starter from Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s poolside restaurant and bar, Boardwalk.

Because of its simplicity and fresh appeal, the seafood selection went down easy with a glass of wine before the next course made its way to our table.

Our relaxed evening at Boardwalk on a warm evening recently was unique as we were privy to a selection of Valentine’s Day dishes created by the hotel’s chefs from various restaurants.

So instead of the Butternut Squash Soup which would have been up next had I ordered off the Boardwalk Valentine’s menu, the Wagyu & Muki Hotate Carpaccio from Senses thrilled our eyes and tastebuds.

This vibrant dish is captivating because raw slices of beef is paired against fresh silky scallops, accentuated with crispy salad leaves and farmed figs.

The fruit slices lend a touch of sweetness, while the pungent and creamy wasabi mayonnaise and tartiness of the horse radish snow flavourises the fresh meat and scallop.

When it was time to go Japanese, Iketeru’s presentation was almost too good to eat as a lacquered tray arrived with bowls forming a sakura flower. The presentation contained Deep Fried Oyster Tempura with Cheese, Smoked Duck with Purple Shisho Cress and Mustard Grain, Half-Boiled Egg with Wolfberry and Brandy, Sakura Flower and Egg Tofu and Bok Choy and Bonito Flakes.

The petite Sakura Canapes is the first item on the Valentine’s menu at Iketeru and is not filling, leaving enough room for the next couple of courses.

shaped plate with strawberries, mesclun salad with citrusvinaigrette.

A splash of summer colours in bright hues thrilled all of us when the Grill Watermelon with Goat Cheese was brought out.

It was apparent that a lot of work had gone into arranging the cubed grilled watermelon, strawberries, sundried tomatoes, mesclun salad and goat cheese on this interesting circular doughnut shaped plate.

From Chynna’s kitchen, we sampled the Golden Organic Pumpkin Soup with Kaori Bako and Ya Jian Shark’s Fin.

However, this particular pairing of pumpkin, crab and shark’s fin did not sit well with me because the orange creamy broth overshadowed the delicate flavours of the seafood ingredients.

It wasn’t long after, that desserts were served, and from Chynna we had Sweet Purple Potato & Chilled Love Shaped Sesame Cake and Chocolate Candle from Senses.

The show stealer of the night was the Chocolate Candle.

Shaped like a candle and lit at your table, this Valrhona Caramelia Chocolate, Caramelised Cocoa Nibs and Chocolate Consomme simply melts in the mouth with a burst of chocolate flavours including truffle cream and rasberry mousse.
