TO ENSURE the quality of their air-flown salmon, the team at Sakae Sushi makes it a point to personally visit the salmon farm in Norway.
“Our farm to table concept is what sets us apart from the players in the market. We want to make sure that we select the top quality breed of salmon and that the feed given to the fish is fresh,” said senior marketing manager Yew June.
She said that their signature salmon dishes like the Hana Maki, Sakae Blossom, and Salmon Sashimi were popular among customers.
“We have more than 100 varieties of sushi and sashimi dishes that they can choose from. Besides serving fresh foods, we also pride ourselves in making sure that they are affordable. Our prices are very competitive and some of our sushi on the belt start from RM1.99,” said Yew.
Sakae Sushi celebrated its 15th anniversary in September and the chain has grown in strength over the years, currently having more than 70 outlets in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
“We will be opening our 20th outlet in Malaysia soon,” said Yew.
Besides the regular sushi and sashimi dishes, Sakae also offers other varieties of appetisers and main dishes like the Sake Salad (a refreshing salad with fresh salmon, seasoned seaweed, jellyfish, tempura flakes, salmon skin, Japanese egg omelette, sweet beancurd skin with a sweet plum sauce), Hotate Mentaiyaki (half shell scallops grilled with cod fish roe) and the Kaisen Pirikara Nabe (hotpot filled with prawns, cuttlefish, salmon, mushrooms and assorted vegetables).
As a commitment towards customer satisfaction, she said that they added Vitamin E into the sushi rice served in the outlets.
“It’s one of the initiatives by the company in line with our belief in serving healthy food to our patrons. Our foods are also sent for bacteria testing on a weekly basis,” she said.
Sakae also recently introduced an iPad interactive menu system, in line with the brand’s orientation towards a lifestyle dining experience.
“It’s very easy to order and our customers actually have fun using it. Customers can browse through the menu which has everything in our hard copy menu.
“They can even enlarge the pictures and search for specific types of food that they are looking for. After deciding, they can just place the order on the iPad and it goes directly into our kitchen,” she said.
In conjunction with its 15th anniversary, customers who spend RM100 and above will receive a RM15 cash voucher while those who spend RM150 and above will get an additional box of Sakae Genmai tea work RM20. The rewards campaign ends on Oct 31.
