RING in the Year of the Snake with sumptuous Chinese New Year set menus at Prince Hotel and Residence’s Chinese restaurant ? Tai Zi Heen.
Chinese head chef Michael Wong has created three set menus to suit all palates.
To start, toss to a year of new beginnings, luck and prosperity with the Vegetarian Snow Pear Yee Sang, Four Prosperity Yee Sang (which consists of butterfish, salmon, tuna and jellyfish) or the Abalone Yee Sang.
The well-balanced sweet and sour flavours of the yee sang serves as a perfect appetiser to whet the appetite for the main course.
Next up, we tried the Braised Dried Oysters with Fatt Choy and Butter Lettuce, which is in line with the Chinese belief in prosperity.
After some treasures from the sea, we then explored creatures of the land with the Roasted Chicken Dusted with Crispy Garlic and Five Spice Salt.
The chicken’s skin is crispy while the meat is as tender as it can get. Dip the chicken into the sour plum sauce for a rounded taste that blends the sweetness of the chicken with the sourness of the sauce.
During a recent preview, we were also served the chef’s Special Baked Cod Fish, which is a highlight of the menu.
While the sound of fish baked in cheese does not sound appealing, the taste definitely proves otherwise. The white meat of the fish melts in your mouth and is balanced well by the richness of the cheese.
Wong said he decided on an unconventional cooking style for the novelty of it, as cod was usually steamed.
Then, we sampled the Stir-fried Glutinous Rice with Chinese-style Waxed Duck. Mix the duck together with the rice for a perfect symphony of sweet and salty.
Some of the other treats available include Wok-fried Tiger Prawns with Marmite Sauce and Scallions, Stir-fried Asparagus Topped with Crabmeat and Sun-dried Scallop Sauce and Steamed Red Snapper with Superior Soy Sauce, Spring Onions and Coriander.
Complete the dining experience with Warm Almond Puree with Glutinous Rice Dumplings with black sesame fillings or Chilled Water Chestnuts Topped with Vanilla Ice Cream.
The traditional Deep-fried Chinese New Year Cake with Thousand Layer Puff Pastry is also available on the menu.
Tai Zi Heen is offering three set menus ? Spring and Happiness Set priced at RM1,188++ per table of eight to 10 persons, Everlasting Prosperity Set at RM1,488++ per table of eight to 10 persons and Wealth and Fortune Set at RM1,888++ per table of eight to 10 persons.
The Chinese New Year menus are available until Feb 24 for lunch and dinner.
