SERVED elegantly on a gleaming platter, authentic oriental cuisine has taken an unconventional turn in Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel.
The renowned Chinese restaurant that boasts royal imperial dining, recently underwent a reinvention to adopt a new trendy concept.
Sheraton Hotel marketing communications director Cindy Yoong said the restaurant felt the need to upgrade their menu in order to suit new tastes.
“The modern society demands more than good food, as many customers are paying attention to the presentation of the food as well.
“Therefore, we came up with a new menu as we believe that presentation and design plays a key role in providing an unforgettable overall dining experience,” she said during an afternoon tea with the press recently.
In addition to the stylish food arrangement, Celestial Court took it up a notch by serving individual, artfully decorated portions.
“The chefs understood the tastes of the current generation, so they came up with this innovative concept,” said Yoong.
Indulging in their creativity, the chefs expanded the menu to introduce new combinations of dim sum, such as sharks fin dumpling, scallop dumpling, crispy cod fish rolls and warm glutinous rice with foie gras.
Also on the menu was a large variety of classic dim sum, cooked to perfection with the finest ingredients.
Dim sum chef Ken Liew Kum Seng said traditional, well-loved dim sum such as siew mai and har kao would forever remain as the essential dishes in a dim sum restaurant.
“It is important to preserve the original cooking methods and recipes to stay true to the authentic taste,” he said.
Customers can also enjoy refreshing Chinese tea while savouring the food.
Premium tea selections such as Ti Kuan Yin, Jasmine Pearl Tea and Jin-Xuan are available at Celestial Court.
To tie in with the reopening of the restaurant, Shanghai Tang introduced their new Metamorphosis line with a fashion show at the afternoon tea session.
The new Spring/Summer 2011 collection captivated the essence of the Miao traditional costumes from Southern China and transformed it into contemporary, wearable ensembles.
Shanghai Tang assistant brand manager Joanne Teh said this collection was very different from previous collections, as it involved chunky accessories, bold motifs and prominent colours.
“One of the outstanding accessories is the knotted leather belt, which can be worn with jackets or dresses to complement the look,” she said.
Yoong explained that the Metamorphosis collection mirrored Celestial Court’s transformation perfectly.
Both the collection and the restaurant’s new theme is about converting tradition into something contemporary without losing the original flavour, she added.
