THE Ramadan buffet at Hotel Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur’s Dine Restaurant features more variety this year.

For one, there are more international dishes, mainly from Arab nations along with authentic Malay food.

One example is the Egyptian-style Nasi Arab.

The pale yellow rice that is similar to nasi briyani in preparation, is cooked with Egyptian-style marinated chicken and can be eaten with any side dish (lauk), be it the Arabic-style dish or traditional local dish, as it contains fewer spices compared with nasi briyani.

The buffet’s Arabic-style roast lamb is cooked to perfection, resulting in meat so tender.

Executive chef Sakya Hamid said he applied his 20 years of culinary experience, knowledge and skill that he gained overseas into the scrumptious spread.

Apart from the Nasi Arab, he also prepares Mongolian Chicken, a barbecue-style chicken cooked with vegetable that he had learnt to cook while attending a culinary fair in Mongolia.

The restaurant’s traditional Malay food spread is just as good. They include the authentic Malay dishes such as Gulai Ikan Masin, Tempoyak Patin Pahang and Sup Gear Box.

There is also Ikan Bakar Tangkap Nangis, a spicy smoked fish that can be eaten with a zesty Portuguese-style.

One dish that will surely tantalise diners’ tastebuds is the Sambal Ikan Bilis Petai. The dish is authentic and tastes just right, making it a must-try dish in the buffet.

For laksa lovers, they will love the various laksa namely Laksa Penang, Laksa Kelantan, Laksa Johor and Laksa Sarawak prepared.

Sakya, who is a familiar face on television shows as cooking show judge and guest chef, said there were more than 120 items and seven menus on rotation in the buffet.

“Food lovers and hungry fasters out there should indulge themselves with this special buffet.

“Come and explore the local and international food that we have prepared in our stall-concept presentation, it surely worth waiting for ‘berbuka’ with us,” said Sakya who hailed from Perak.

The buffet is available until Aug 17 from 6pm to 10 pm.

The buffet is priced at RM55++ for adults and RM38++ for children and senior citizens.
