CELEBRATE Christmas and usher in the New Year with exciting dinner sets at Still Waters, Hotel Maya’s contemporary Japanese Cantonese Restaurant.

The restaurant, simple yet elegant, has developed two special menus for the occassions.

“Enjoying your Christmas dinner with loved ones here will surely be a memorable experience.

“Our New Year set, which is available on Dec 31 and Jan 1, will also be the perfect way to end the year or begin the New Year,” Hotel Maya marketing communication manager Farrah Sharizan said.

The first of five dishes for the New Year dinner set was the Fresh Salmon Trout Tartare on top of Crispy Sushi Rice with Bainiku sauce.

I loved the mix of flavour and texture from the trout tartare against the slightly crispy sushi rice. It was good enough to be enjoyed on its own or dipped into the Bainiku sauce.

The first dish definitely raised the bar and I was looking forward to the next dish which was a clear soup — Double Boiled Fish Maw Soup with Clams and Fungus.

The main course is a selection of either the Char-grilled Australian Tenderloin served with Japanese Wild Mushroom Sauce or the Baked King Prawn with Fresh Avocado Cheese Sauce.

I found the grilled tenderloin quite flat and the accompanying wild mushroom sauce which also contains a pinch of wasabi, did not do enough to improve the overall taste of the dish.

The King Prawn with Avocado Cheese Sauce was a sight to marvel, with its large and beautifully grilled prawn served on top of a pandan leaf and topped with a lovely coat of avocado cheese. The next two dishes — Baked Pumpkin Seafood Rice in Capsicum as well as the Banoffi Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream — were creative and inviting.

The Christmas set will consist of five dishes as well, such as Vietnamese roll (poached prawn, coriander, lettuce roll with Vietnamese paper roll), soup (Creamy Seafood Chowder served with crispy garlic stick), main course of either Rolled Turkey Breast with Prawn Paste and Shishito Tempura or Pan-fried Salmon with Ginger Lime Sauce, noodle (simmered Somen with New Zealand Green Shell Mussel) and Christmas pudding with warm vanilla sauce for dessert.

Farrah said the New Year dinner set would be priced at RM198 while the Christmas set was priced at RM168.

The restaurant seats 62 persons, and also has a semi-private dining room that can seat 16.
