WHETHER you want to just enjoy a breath of fresh air and watch the glorious sunset in the horizon with a cup of tea, or relax with friends over a meal and a drink or two, Shangri-La?s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa?s pleasant poolside outlet is the place to head for.

Situated outside the Garden Wing near the sea, The Pinang Bar gives hotel guests and walk-in customers a taste of five-star resort service and dining without the need to dress up at all.

In fact, guests can now enjoy an even more enhanced alfresco experience: The low branches which used to overhang the area have been pruned back, and together with the brand new weatherproof deck, it?s altogether a lighter, brighter place.

During the day, it?s great to sit there and enjoy the whole beach-cum-poolside thing ? the ?lap-lap-lap? of the waves as they splash gently on the sand and the light breeze that wafts in from the sea.

Between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, there?s even more reason to smile. It?s Happy Hours and customers will be able to indulge in selected delicious ice-cold cocktails or other house pouring drinks at special prices. How?s that for a sundowner.

It?s a wonderful place for alfresco dining, and whatever your taste, there is a good choice of casual eats, both local and international, perfect for our hot weather: Enjoy light bites, salads, sandwiches and wraps, together with some popular hot dishes.

You could start with one of their Thaipas (Thai-styled tapas) appetisers or a refreshing Caesar Salad, with added smoked salmon or beef bacon if desired, then move on to one of their delectable burgers.

How about the amazing Double Beefburger, the generous patties made in-house with only prime minced meat topped with melted cheese, crispy beef bacon and a fried egg. It comes complete with fries and coleslaw.

If you prefer something spicier, then opt for the Malay Beef Rendang, tender pieces of meat slow-braised in a not-too-spicy traditional rempah (curry paste) and coconut gravy. This is served with white Jasmine rice, salad and crunchy poppadoms.

As for dessert, there are cooling ice-creams and apple pie, amongst others, or you
might fancy a slice of new executive pastry chef Dino?s great selection of cheese-
cakes, available from the Rasa Deli, which will go down a treat.

This is definitely a case of having your (cheese) cake and eating it.
