FANCY some Johor style bak kut teh? Then head to Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh at Jaya One, Petaling Jaya.

Heng Kee (not to be confused with the one in Old Town), serves bak kut teh, which is found at its other branches in Kepong and Manjalara.

Shopowner Michael Yap said the soup of the Johor Baru-style bak kut teh was clearer than its Klang counterpart, which was much thicker.

“The soup may not be as rich as the Klang bak kut teh but it still has a flavourful taste and aroma.

“We use high-quality meat and 13 types of herbs and spices in preparing our dishes.”

“The herbs and spices are also specially formulated by the founder of Heng Kee bak kut teh, which separates us from other bak kut teh sellers,” he said, adding the cooks were trained at the main branch in Kepong.

Yap said their signature main dishes were the pork ribs and braised pork knuckles, priced at RM12.50 per pax.

“Our pork intestines and pork belly dishes are also quite famous among customers here,” he said.

Other than the pork-based dishes, the restaurant also serves steamed fish head and ginger chicken.

“In fact, we are the only branch that sells the steamed fish,” he said.

“Other dishes include vegetables, beancurd skin and yau char kwai (a mainstay with bak kut teh),” he added.

Yap said the restaurant also has set meals, catering for groups of between three and six people or more.

He said a set meal for a table of two or three people would cost RM28, which includes two main pork-based dishes, vegetables, side order and tea.

“A group of seven people can also share six main dishes, a big dish of vegetables, two side orders and tea at RM72,” he said, adding the set meals were only available from 10am to 5pm.

Opened in September last year, Heng Kee brings a refreshing ambience from the open-air bak kut teh restaurants found in the Klang Valley.

Yap said customers could dine comfortably within a clean and air-conditioned environment at his shop.

The restaurant is also Wi-fi enabled and caters to office workers and students from nearby areas.
