THE combination of pasta and a tasty sauce is almost a science in itself. And when you realise that there are countless varieties and shapes of pasta, fillings and sauces, finding the perfect combination becomes a real challenge.
But for the patrons of popular Italian-themed restaurant chain, Italiannies, the eight new pasta dishes that are part of its Festa della Pasta promotion is an excellent example of pasta done the right way.
These new dishes are sure to delight as diners will be able to savour a selection of authentic pasta recipes originating from the various regions of Italy.
The promotion is on from now until June 30, with prices ranging from RM18.90 to RM26.90 each.
During a recent media launch of the new menu at Italiannies at The Gardens Mall in Mid Valley City, Italiannies regional manager Andrea Rossi was on hand to reveal the origins of each dish.
Among the pasta dishes sampled was a 1907 tubular pasta creation called Cannelloni.
“Created by Chef Nicola Federico in Sorrento, Italy, this dish was originally called ‘strascinati‘, meaning dragged. It only gained popularity during World War II when residents of Naples fled to Sorrento,” Andrea said.
The Cannelloni (RM26.90) served at Itallianies is a cheesy cannelloni stuffed with spinach and artichokes served with homemade marinara sauce, topped with melted mozzarella cheese and bechamel sauce.
This dish is a definite must-have for cheese lovers.
Next on the menu was the Tortellini con Salmone ed Aneto (RM26.90) – a spinach and ricotta-filled tortellini pasta tossed in alfredo sauce with sauteed salmon and fresh dill.
This dish was a delight as the distinct taste of the salmon remains intact and went wonderfully with the creamy sauce.
Another highlight of the menu is the freshly made Tagliatelle con pesto al pomodoro, which consists of plain and spinach tagliatelle pasta, green pesto, tomatoes, and garnished with pine nuts and Parmesan cheese.
Another variation of the same pasta is the Tagliatelle con Salvia and Funghi e Popettine – handmade tagliatelle pasta sauteed with lemon and shiitake mushrooms served with homemade beef meatballs. Best of all, both these dishes only cost RM22.90.
The other pasta dishes in the Festa della Pasta promotion include Mussels & Clams Lombardi con Pappardelle (RM26.90), Fileja con Pomodoro e Basilico (RM18.90), Paccheri con Ragu (RM18.90) and Fusilli con Spinaci ed Alfredo sauce (RM22.90).
There is also a lunch promotion (11am till 3pm), where with a top-up of RM6 on any choice of pasta (from the Festa Della Pasta menu), patrons can enjoy a choice of either a salad (Insalata Verde), a dessert (chocolate brownie) or a glass of Pepsi.
Be sure to try out their new appetisers Gamberi con Aglio (sauteed shrimps cooked with red dried chillies, black olives and tomatoes) and Mediterranean Salad.
For the dinner promotion (6pm onwards), with a top-up of RM16 on top of any choice of pasta from the Festa Della Pasta menu, patrons get to pick between an entr
