JALAN Kuchai Lama in the southern part of Kuala Lumpur city is a place known for its fine makan places.

I was led to one such outlet called Restoran Goon Wah by my old makan kaki, James Lam.

He left The Star more than one-and-a-half years ago in search of better fortune and I am glad that the man is doing well.

Lam called me and said he wanted to bring me to a place in Taman Kuchai Jaya, famous for its fish head noodles and claypot loh shue fun.

“Eh Sam ah! I felt so guilty la, never kept in touch with you. Only after your book is out, I tried to make time. Sorry ah, friend,” said the apologetic Lam.

So, after making up for lost time, we made our way to the makan place.

Now, the first thing I noticed was the fact that there was a large crowd having their lunch.

Luckily, we found a table and ordered the signature dish :fish head noodles, claypot loh shue fun and a plate of pig entrails.

From the claypot: Goon Wah’s loh shue fun.

I would rate the fish head noodles five-and-a-half out of 10 on the Samo-scale.

The claypot loh shue fun scores a four out of 10 and to my surprise, the pig entrails came in high at eight out of 10.

What I like was the chue thou (pig’s tripe) and the sang cheong (fallopian tubes) that was really crunchy.

After savouring the meal, my bill came up to RM48.50 for three dishes including two drinks.

Lam said Goon Wah is known for its chicken wings. Well, maybe someday, on my day off, I will give it a try with some beers.

Restoran Goon Wah is located along Jalan 3/115C in Taman Kuchai Jaya and the GPS coordinates are: N 03 05.427, E 101 41.001.
