GET a kick from the spicy offerings at the Tastes of Thailand buffet at Palms Café, Palm Garden Hotel. The current promotion ends on Nov 30.

Thai chef Seeri Din Ren with his chef de partie Ruchirat Thavonyot (chef Tina) and the team from the hotel’s Aroi Dee Thai Restaurant offers a selection of Thai cuisine among the usual buffet spread at the café.

Aside from tom yam soup, a must-have for a Thai buffet, there will be four choices of mains, salads and three desserts daily.

For mains, one can have Stir Fried Beef with Chilli and Thai Basil Leaves, Deep Fried Fish with Fresh Thai Chilli, Sauteed Prawns with Roasted Chilli and Stir-fried Long Egg Plant with Sambal.

If you find some of the dishes too spicy, you can opt for the Thai Green Curry, which is flavourful but not too spicy.

You can also control the degree of spiciness when you pick ingredients for Som Tam (Thai salad).

Miang Kham, a traditional snack in Thailand, is one of the more interesting dishes. It is only available during dinner.

To enjoy this snack, place all the ingredients namely chilli, lime, roasted coconut, ginger, dried shrimp, peanuts and a paste made from palm syrup and ginger on a kadok leaf (Piper sarmentosum) and wrap it up.

Chef Seeri suggests diners eat the Miang Kham in one bite.

The chilli and ginger will give you a spicy kick while the sweet palm syrup and tangy lime will balance out the spiciness.

For desserts, we had tapioca, sweetened banana and pumpkin Sangkaya, an egg custard dessert.

The banana could be paired with coconut milk but I find it good enough to be enjoyed on its own.

The promotion is to introduce diners to the hotel’s Aroi Dee Thai Restaurant.

For November and December, the restaurant offers diners a RM20 nett rebate voucher for RM80 nett and above spent.

The buffet promotion is available for lunch (Mondays-Fridays, noon to 2.30pm) and dinner (Sundays to Thursdays, 7pm-10.30pm).

The buffet is priced RM58++ for lunch and RM68++ for dinner. Children (four-12-years-old) and senior citizens (55-years-old and above) get a 40% discount.
