THOSE who fancy authentic Mexican cuisine are in for a treat.

Fresca Mexican Kitchen and Bar at The Gardens shopping centre which opened last year, may just satisfy discerning diners.

Restaurant director Lim Meng Jan said Fresca was trying to introduce authentic Mexican food to the Malaysian public.

“The dishes on our menu are not Tex-Mex, which is commonly found in other restaurants,” she said.

Lim added, “Tex-Mex (Texan-American) cuisine is usually loaded with cheese and meat.

Mexican wraps: The burritos are served with Mexican red rice, pico de gallo and guacamole.

“Authentic Mexican food is a healthier option. The most commonly used ingredients are fresh, including beans and chilli”.

“Mexican food is also quite diverse. There is something for everyone,” she said.

The restaurant offers a wide range of drinks too, including Margaritas and agua frescas (fresh water) flavoured with horchata (made from rice and cinnamon), mango (flavoured with honey and lime) and dried hibiscus flowers.

The restaurant also offers a wide range of botana (appetiser) for sharing.

Botana are very similar to the tapas and dim sum, where a big group of people share small plates of food. This way, everyone gets a little bit of everything,” said Lim.

Freshly made: The restaurant also offers a wide range of tacos including the Taco Alambre corn flourtortilla filled with grilled beefand poblanochillies, served with salsa verde.

In addition, a wide range of tacos is available, including the Taco Alambre, which is corn flour tortilla filled with grilled beef and poblano chillies, served with salsa verde as well as the Taco Camarones which is prawn-filled tacos using wheat flour tortilla which will be available next month for the restaurant’s Mother’s Day promotion.

“For our tacos, we have two types of tortilla. It is more common for restaurants to serve corn and flour tortilla but here, we also prepare home-cooked corn tortillas which are gluten free,” she said.

Other dishes to look out for are the Jalapeno Poppers, which are stuffed Jalapeno Chili covered with breadcrumbs and fried, served with mango chipotle chili salsa.

Fresca also serves burritos, which are Mexican-style wraps with Mexican red rice, pico de gallo and guacamole.

For those with a sweet tooth, try churros or the Mexican style donuts rolled in cinnamon and sugar, served with chocolate and traditional goats milk caramel (cajeta) dips.

Fresca Mexican Kitchen and Bar’s happy hour on weekdays is between 4pm and 8pm. Its weekend brunch is available from 11am to 4pm.
