THERE are always new and innovative dishes to try out when it comes to dim sum and there is no better place to indulge in this food culture than at Hotel Equatorial Penang’s Golden Phoenix.

The restaurant has introduced a treasure trove of new items that are richly satisfying.

The menu features over 40 varieties of snack-sized portions of fried, steamed and baked delicacies.

All-time favourites include har gao (steamed prawn dumpling), siew mai (steamed prawn and chicken dumpling with crab roe), char siew bao (steamed bun with BBQ chicken) and foong zhao (braised chicken feet with black bean sauce).

Others consist of ham sui kok (deep-fried chicken dumpling with dried shrimps), zha wu kok (deep-fried taro with minced chicken), jin neong san bo (braised stuffed vegetables topped with oyster sauce) and ngao yok mai (steamed beef dumpling with tomyam sauce).

New creations comprise of char siew soo (crispy baked BBQ chicken puff), nam gua gao (steamed prawn dumpling with pumpkin), Shanghai bao (pan-fried baowith chicken, prawn and vegetable) and hai yok siew mai (steamed crab meat dumpling).

There are also cui pei hoi sam kok (deep-fried sea cucumber with chicken and prawn paste), hai yok chin yu pen (pan-fried fish cake with crab meat) and har jiong zheng jok shao (steamed octopus with special prawn sauce).

For a sweet finale are desserts like Shanghai Chinese pancake (red bean or lotus seed paste), chilled papaya with sago and milk, chilled mango pudding, warm sweetened peanut soup and chilled avocado cheese cake.

The dim sum dishes are served daily from 11am to 2.30pm on weekdays and from 8am to 2.30pm on weekends and public holidays.

Besides dim sum, the pork-free Golden Phoenix also offers excellent authentic Szechuan and Cantonese cuisines. Using only the finest and freshest ingredients, the culinary skills of the master chefs will provide an unforgettable gastronomic experience.

The a la carte menu is available for lunch (same timing as the dim sum) and from 6.30pm to 10pm for dinner daily.
