IMAGINE sharing your “birthday” with hundreds of people and celebrating it together on a grand scale with good food and entertainment.
This is what Ritz Garden Hotel, Ipoh has in mind as it holds its “New Year’s Birthday Dinner” at the Ritz Grand Ballroom from 8pm to 10.30pm on Feb 6.
While some might wonder why it is a mass “birthday dinner”, this is due to Feb 6 being the seventh day of Chinese New Year, known as “renri” or the people’s birthday.
In Chinese tradition, renri is considered a day when everyone grows a year older together.
To make this mass birthday celebration an event to remember, the hotel has prepared a tantalising menu and various performances for diners.
There’s bound to be something for everyone as the menu features prosperity salmon yee sang, shark’s fin soup with crab meat, steamed garoupa, blanched tiger prawns, braised pig trotters, assorted vegetables with mushrooms and beancurd skin, Hong Kong-style glutinous rice and chilled sweetened rolls.
While diners tuck into their dishes, they will be serenaded by veteran singer Sharon Au, while another performance features a group of children dressed in traditional costumes.
The God of Prosperity will also make an appearance at the event to spread luck and distribute mandarin oranges among the diners.
All this is RM788 nett per table of 10, with no corkage charge for liquor brought in for the event.
Over at the hotel’s Garden Restaurant, its Chinese New Year menu will be available from Jan 20 to Feb 17 from 7pm to 10pm daily.
Priced at RM588, RM698 and RM868, diners can expect to have the mouth-watering dishes featured in the “New Year’s Birthday Dinner” as well as other favourites such as suckling pig, stuffed crispy chicken, Portuguese-style pan fried prawns and double boiled lotus seeds with lily bulbs.
