King of Fruits to be served fresh as well as infused in nine types of dessert.
EASTIN Hotel Petaling Jaya is bringing back the King of Fruits for its Ramadan promotion, in view of the good response received last year.
The fruit is usually not allowed in hotels due to its strong smell but executive chef Alex Leong said diners could now enjoy a variety of durian treats on the premises.
“Apart from serving fresh durian on-the-spot, there will be nine types of durian dessert, which will be served at the poolside on the second floor,” Leong said.
These include Baked Durian Cheese Cake, Durian Cream Puff, Durian Creme Brulee, Durian Swiss Roll and Bubur Durian, among others.
Apart from durian, the Ramadan buffet spread at Swez Brasserie with the theme 1001 Rasa Selera Kampung, offers a variety of sumptuous, mouthwatering dishes.
In the salad section, try the Laap Pla Duk or the Thai Catfish Salad. While it may look like any other Thai salad, the crispiness of the fried catfish in the salad was simply amazing.
Leong said, apart from the ulam-ulam kampung and jelata harian (or better known as acar mentah) served with various types of sambal, diners must also try the Som Tam (Green Papaya Salad) and Larb Ghai (Spicy Thai Chicken Salad).
Lemang and ketupat daun palas are other favourites found on the buffet, which will be complemented by three types of serunding, namely serunding ayam, serunding daging and serunding ikan.
The hotel’s Malay chef Mohamed Hamedy Yaacob, 35, who is in charge of preparing Malay cuisine, said the promotion would feature dishes from all states in the country. Among the dishes to look out for are Penang Oxtail Soup and Sup Ekor Utara.
“This is why the theme is 1001 Rasa Selera Kampung,” said the Kuala Lumpur-born who recommended Daging Salai Bercili Pedas, Sotong Sumbat Pulut Bersama Sos Santan and Ikan Patin Masak Tempoyak Sungai Koyan.
I found the Masak Lemak Telur Itik Bersama Terung Pipit very appetising. The dish looked like the famous Thai Green Curry, if not for the duck eggs used. Definitely a must-try which goes well with rice.
The Pais Ketam Bunga is a beautiful dish which I fell in love with at first sight. Mohamed Hamedy said coconut milk and shredded coconut were the main ingredients with chilli flakes giving the dish its red colour.
Other must-try dishes among the mains include Ikan Siakap Goreng Bersama Sos Mangga, Hamachi Fish Curry with Lady Fingers and Eggplant, Peria Goreng Bertelur Cili and Sambal Udang Petai.
In the carving section, diners will definitely be tempted with another Ramadan favourite called Kambing Panggang Rempah Kuzi Bersama Nasi Arab. The meat is grilled to perfection, with the combination of spices complementing it, nicely.
There are also a variety of Satay Percik to savour including Satay Ayam Percik, Satay Daging Percik and Satay Kambing Percik.
The buffet is available from June 29 to July 27, priced at RM98++ per adult and RM49++ per child for the first week of the fasting month, and RM110++ per adult and RM55++ per child from the second week onwards until the end of Ramadan. Diners also get to enjoy a ‘buy 10 free 1’ deal throughout the promotion.
The buffet is open from 6.30pm to 10pm.
