THIS Ramadan, visit Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences Kuala Lumpur and enjoy a sumptuous buffet spread with traditional kampung-styled dishes.
Specially prepared by executive chef K. Manimaran and his culinary team, diners will be delighted to find over 150 dishes from seven menus rotated on a daily basis at Flavours Restaurant.
According to Manimaran, the Roasted Whole Lamb Arabian Style with hummus dip was brought back due to popular demand.
Other delightful highlights in buffet includes Nasi Hujan Panas, Ikan Acar Rampai, Popiah Durian Goreng, Ketam Masam Manis, Sambal Udang Petai, Ayam Percik Buah Kacang, Rendang Udang Cendawan, Ketam Masak Lemak Pucuk Paku and Laksa Goreng.
For starters, diners will be spoilt for choice with the variety of fresh salads and kerabu available.
I started off with Mango Kerabu which was my favourite. Next, I attacked the ulam section and I have to admit that with the variety of sambal available, diners would not be able to stop at just one helping.
The various types of sambal prepared included Sambal Belacan Mangga, Sambal Belacan Nenas, cencaluk and budu.
The other interesting part about this section was the salted fish — Ikan Masin Talang and Ikan Masin Gelama.
Absolutely appetising, if one has white rice with sambal belacan and salted fish.
In the soup section, do not miss the famous bubur lambuk tastefully prepared by the chef.
What was so special about this light and once-a-year dish was the spices and condiments used to prepare it — making it an appropriate starter.
Apart from this, Sup Kambing, Sup Ayam and Sup Daging were also appetising.
However, I was enthusiastic when I saw the grilled action stall, where chefs were busy preparing fresh seafoood such as squid, stingray and tiger prawn a la minute.
It was rather impressive to see chefs skillfully cook fresh seafood on the hot plate to tantalise the diners.
Other action stalls offering perennial favourites included roti canai, murtabak, popiah basah and the fried fruits.
The fried apples were tasty, although I felt that the amount of sugar used to coat it could be reduced significantly.
As it was the durian season, opting for Fried Durian Tempura was a must.
For those who prefer non-spicy dishes, I would recommend chicken rice, koay teow soup and laksa Johor.
What attracted me most was the Nasi Hujan Panas — a speciality from Kelantan and Terengganu.
Fragrant rice with permitted colouring of yellow, blue and green was used in this dish.
Try this with some Sambal Udang Petai, Ayam Percik Buah Kacang, Ikan Acar Rampai and Kangkong Goreng, and you would be amazed how delicious the flavours blend with one another.
Once you have had all the spicy stuff and yearn for something sweet, head towards the dessert section.
Here, Western desserts such as tarts, cakes, creme caramel and bread pudding were served, apart from traditional Malay cakes.
If dessert was not a priority, replace the sweet cravings with local fruits and rojak buah.
The buffet dinner is available until Aug 18 from 6.30pm to 10pm and is priced at RM68++ per adult and RM34++ per child/senior citizen.
