LIVING in the city makes you crave for all those kampung delights you can only get when you return home for Hari Raya.
Imagine savouring Ikan Patin Masak Lemak Tempoyak Asam Belimbing (river fish braised in turmeric fermented durian coconut cream) and Lepat Ikan Kukus Daun Kunyit (Malay-style fish terrine wrapped in turmeric leaves) over a bowl of steaming rice for dinner.
Rest assured, you will be able to enjoy everything kampung style this Ramadan at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (KLCC) buka puasa spread.
Their popular buka puasa theme – Kampung in the City – makes a comeback after its successful run in 2015.
“It was a hit last year and we saw how our diners enjoyed the traditional Malay cuisine, which can be difficult to find in the city.
“We always aim to give our diners the best possible all-in-one Ramadan experience and this year is no different,” said KLCC sales and marketing director Angeline Lue, whose personal favourites include the Mediterranean Hickory Smoked Lamb served with black pepper and mint sauce.
The noodles are available at the same station as the pad thai (Thai styled stir fried noodles) and the chef manning the stall was busy taking orders when I popped by.
While waiting for my order, I noticed a basket filled with bits of fried egg which was noticeably brown and looked crispy from afar.
As he poured the curry over the noodles, the chef added chicken bits, long beans, prawns, brinjal, chilli, lime and dried onions before topping it off with a generous helping of the deep-fried crispy egg bits.
The curry was thicker than usual and flavourful.
It was well paired with the chee cheong fun-like noodles and the fried egg made the dish a little crunchier.
A visit to the main buffet line and you will be mesmerised by the local dishes like Rendang Ayam Kampung Seri Menanti (chicken rendang with green chilli), bubur lambuk (rice porridge), chicken and beef satay, Hainanese chicken rice, mee goreng mamak, ketupat, lemang and Pita Kebab Arab Daging Cincang (Arabic style beef kebab with pita bread).
KLCC also introduced a “Goreng-gorengan” station featuring deep-fried items such as bananas, jackfruit, bread fruit, fish and prawn crackers.
To end the evening, make some room for a bowl of Ais Batu Campur served with condiments and ice cream.
There is also a large selection of local kuih, fruits and cakes.
The Kampung in the City buffet will be available from June 13 to July 1.
It is priced at RM115 nett per person and is limited to 250 pax per day.
They also cater to private buka puasa banquets for 100 pax and above.
Private banquet diners will have two menu options with prices ranging between RM115 nett per person and RM157.41 nett per person.
Lue said clients also have an option to personalise their menus with various action stations as add-ons for this year.
