THE simple and unassuming Ex-Lover Restaurant in Ipoh whips up a whole range of flavourful delights.
The menu at the restaurant offers more than 60 items encompassing appetisers, Asian and Western main dishes plus specialty drinks and desserts.
On top of this, there are money saver meals which are very affordable at just RM5.50.
These are favourites like chicken chop, fish and chips, pork chops and jumbo sausages. Diners can choose the sauces to go with the chops – black pepper, mushroom, honey, Thai and sweet and sour sauces.
Owner Ricky Hor said the name of the restaurant came about when a friend and he were joking about the topic.
He said one of the most popular dishes at the restaurant was stone-grilled rice (above). This is a Korean concoction which has kimchi, bean sprouts, green vegetables, minced pork and raw egg all piled on top of rice in a stone bowl and heated right through.
The way to eat this dish is to give all the items a good mix so that all the flavours blend into a highly appetising and satisfying meal,” said Hor.
“Other excellent choices are rice with sambal sotong or sambal prawn or go for nasi lemak with a delicious bowl of thick Ipoh chicken curry.
“As for Western dishes, Ex-Lover offers a wide range of spaghetti dishes, cheesy chicken sandwich, pork chop burger, a big breakfast plate and blackened sea bass.”
Then again, if noodles is your choice for the day, you can choose from curry mee, kimchi mee, pork knuckle noodles, har mee and others.
The restaurant also serves delightful drinks and desserts such as strawberry latte, Hawaiian breeze, kiwi kiss and mango fever, among others.
These are served in tall glasses topped with pretty garnishing and cream, for some.
Desserts served in bowls or thong sui are available in various combinations of fruit, jellies, coconut milk and shaved ice, just to name a few.
Children will enjoy the Rainbow Ice. This is shaved ice topped with honey dew and watermelon balls plus yoghurt pops which literally pop when you bite into them.
Another thong sui dish has herbal jelly squares swimming in santan (coconut milk) sweetened with gula melaka.
Ex-Lover Restaurant certainly warrants a visit for all the right reasons.
The place is open between 11am and 9pm every day. Once a month, it is closed for a three-day stretch and these dates are displayed on a notice at the restaurant.
