Nasi Padang is a meal that most Malaysians would have tried at some point in their lives as it originates from neighbouring Sumatra, in a place called Padang.
For locals, it is easy to like the simplicity of nasi Padang as white rice is savoured with fish, meat and vegetable dishes as well as spicy sambal, very similar to the way Malaysians enjoy a rice meal.
If you are one of those who has never tried nasi Padang, then the promotion at Best Western Petaling Jaya is worth checking out.
The hotel is presenting an authentic Indonesian promotion with its nasi Padang buffet at Kembali Kitchen, which features five rotating menus.
It is a bonus to the hotel that its sous chef Awie Iskandar is from Medan and knows a great deal about Indonesian cuisine especially nasi Padang.
Highlights of the promotion include daging urat and daging rendang.
I personally enjoyed the chef’s gulai kambing for its enticing aroma, savoury flavour and the use of spices in the dish.
Not only was the meat tender, it was truly addictive to have with rice.
So what makes nasi Padang special?
Best Western Petaling Jaya food and beverage manager Murli K. Govaindan highlighted the cuisine’s amazing variety.
“Our buffet consists of six main nasi Padang courses with an assortment of soups, appetisers and desserts.
“We want more diners to enjoy nasi Padang and the buffet’s amazing price makes it affordable,” he said adding that the promotion was priced at RM30 nett for adults and RM15 nett for children.
The promotion, that ends on Jan 31, was launched by Indonesian Embassy’s economic affairs minister counsellor Krishna Hanan, information, social and culture affairs minister counsellor Trigustono Supriyanto, trade attaché Fajarini Puntodewi and Best Western Petaling Jaya sales director Rohayah Satar last week.
