Sungai Way eatery offers good food and friendly service.
Continuing my quest for cheap eats, I ended up at a Nasi Minang stall in Jalan SS9A/20 near Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya.
This eatery is located opposite the Sun Tho Yuen coffee shop which is famous for their Lou Chee Yuk.
And it is no coincidence that this makan place is called Rumah Makan Minang Maimbau.
Sound familiar?
Well, after talking to its owner, I learned that this is the original Nasi Minang shop in the neighbourhood and that the owner’s son had opened his stall opposite the Sungai Way police station.
Rumah Makan Minang Maimbau is managed entirely by women and the first thing that caught my attention was the Dendeng Sapi Berlado.
There is a decent selection of Minangkabau dishes here at the Rumah Makan and I wasted no time scooping the dishes onto my plate of hot rice.
While I was at it, the ladies were still preparing the dishes for the lunch crowd.
I grabbed a piece of ikan lele (catfish) (top pic), tempe goreng (processed soyabean cake), telur dadar (egg omelette), telur goreng berlado (fried egg with chillies) and some taugeh. With rice piled up on my plate to make a small mountain, the biggest surprise here is the price.
I had a plate of rice with a glass of iced tea while my colleague Md Ehfan who accompanied me had rice with three dishes and the cost came up to RM12.50.
For the quality of the food served, I’d give Rumah Makan Minang Maimbau a seven out of 10 on the Samo-scale.
What impressed me the most were the friendly people who manage the Rumah Makan and the really good and cheap makan.
The Minang Maimbau shop in Jalan SS9A/20 (GPS N 03 05.307, E 101 37.024) opens daily for lunch and dinner.
