Restaurant in Taman Tun Dr Ismail offers tasty Malay dishes at affordable prices.
FOLLOWING my trip to some good Kai See Hor Fun in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, I found another decent makan place near Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad.
This is a nasi campur place located two doors away from a well-known bicycle shop.
But before I get to the lowdown, I would like to take a question from reader Jimmy Yong.
Well Jimmy, the answer is: “exercise”.
I walk and I cycle.
The recommended number of steps per day is 6,900 steps (equivalent to 5.8km) a day.
How do I measure this? I use a Garmin fitness tracker.
And if I am up to it, I cycle to work. The average distance from my house to the office and back is 43km.
So, that said, my commute to work burns about 1,700 calories on average.
My case in point is this: when you go for makan, don’t double-park in front of the restaurant. Make it a point to find a parking bay that is further away so that you can walk. That way, you can also work up a good appetite.
Okay, moving on to Taman Tun Dr Ismail, I found this nasi campur place called Restoran De’RN (GPS N03 08.412, E101 37.760), off Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad.
The selection of dishes here is quite decent and my choice pick (top pic) is the paru goreng berlada (fried cow’s lung with chillies), dendeng masak lemak (beef in creamy coconut gravy), terung tumis cili (brinjal fried with chillies) and pucuk paku masak lemak (wild ferns with tumeric and coconut milk gravy).
There is also a good selection of fish dishes here such as ikan keli goreng (fried catfish) and ikan kerisi goreng (fried bream).
Now, what’s really interesting is the fact that my nasi campur (two meat and two vegetable dishes with hot rice) came up to RM6 per serving.
Initially, I was shocked because you can never find nasi campur dishes at such a price in this township.
It is cheap and good and on the Samo-scale, I would rate this makan place at 7 out of 10.
That said, I will be a repeat customer, especially if I have any chores in the area.
Restoran De’RN opens daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is closed on weekends.
