Wasasagi tempura
The Wasasagi Tempura promotion at Kampachi at Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur ends today. For seafood lovers, delight your taste buds with this scrumptious Japanese cuisine specially prepared by chef How Yoke Seng. Wasasagi or pond smelt is a freshwater fish species that lives primarily in the sea but make spawning runs into the freshwater streams like salmon. Pond smelt can be found across the world in the Arctic, Northwest to Northeast of the Pacific, Canada, Alaska, Korea and Japan. Savour the tender taste of pond smelt deep-fried tempura style. This seasonal pond smelt is air flown from Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan, where the fish thrives in the cold Arctic water. The uniqueness of pond smelt lies in its meaty flesh which is then cooked deep fried and encased in crunchy golden tempura batter. It is best eaten with Hajikami ginger and Ohba leaf.
