AFTER weeks of anticipation, I finally managed to try out a much talked-about kari laksa in a coffee shop at Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur.
Some buddies of mine had given this makan place a good review and the quality of the laksa noodles there are said to be as good as ‘Sister’s Laksa’ in Sea Park, Petaling Jaya.
So, to get the gist of the story, I rounded up two of my makan kakis — Jacobus Raj and Eddie Chua — for a quick lunch break.
We parked at the former Jaya Jusco outdoor carpark to avoid our car being towed away or issued a summons ticket.
Parking in this township is a nightmare and there are many kiasu motorists who double-park their vehicles, creating unnecessary traffic jams.
Our destination was Yong Len coffee shop (GPS N 03 08 563, E 101 37 713) which is located along Persiaran Zaaba in TTDI KL.
For the uninitiated, this is a neighbourhood melting pot that has been around for at least a few decades.
It is popular for two things — kari laksa and Penang prawn noodles.
Time to tuck in and unwind: The lunch crowd at Yong Len coffee shop.My mission was to try out the laksa noodles stall in this coffee shop and let my makan kakis grade the quality of the food served.
By the time we were seated on a table shared with other patrons, our noodles were promptly served.
While having my lunch, I couldn’t help hearing the daily gossips from a bunch of elderly men.
The topic of the day was ‘Osama bin Laden’s death’, ‘soaring property prices’, ‘Wah! I am a millionaire lah…’ and so on.
It’s pretty interesting as the men were talking very loud.
I guess that with age, permanent hearing impairment is imminent.
When it comes to the quality of Yong Len coffee shop’s kari laksa, I would say that its pretty decent.
My buddy Jacobus said it’s above average and Eddie gave it a 6 out of 10 on the Eddie-scale.
To sum it up, the kari laksa was decent. But it paled in comparison to the Sister’s Laksa in Seapark, Petaling Jaya.
Then again, I may be wrong, so, if you want to give Yong Len’s coffee shop’s laksa a try, be sure to carpool or take public transport to Persiaran Zaaba.
