THERE is a special dish at the DH Nyonya Cafe in Section 8, Petaling Jaya that keeps the restaurant busy. It is the special Otak-Otak.
The aromatic and savoury Otak-Otak is made from mackerel (Tenggiri).
Owner Doreen How who makes the otak-otak herself, said it was a popular dish at the restaurant and about 15 pieces were sold each day.
“What’s good about it is also its decent-sized portion where one can really enjoy and have it as a main meal. Sometimes people just order an Otak-Otak and rice to go along with it,” she said, adding that the restaurant focused on Malacca Nyonya dishes.
The restaurant also has dishes like Assam Fish, Sambal Petai and Pongteh.
How, who is not a Nyonya, said she picked up the recipes from her sister, who also has a restaurant in Malacca.
“Our style is to cook the dishes as per order so it’s hot and fresh for the customers,” she added.
Catering for the office crowd, the restaurant’s target is the lunch crowd, and for that, there are set menus at RM9.90, which includes a main meal and drink.
Apart from local dishes, there is also a selection of Western food at the restaurant.
