WHO doesn’t like being in Harrods? The up-market British name has long set a mark in the retail and food industry that when you walk into a store, you do so with head and hopes held high.
For one, the interior is warm and classic, with the merchandise area beckoning you to take something of exquisite quality home.
This was the exact feeling I got when I walked into Harrods World Signature Shop and Tea Salon in Suria KLCC, which immediately put a smile on my face.
I was joined by a few other media members to taste what the restaurant had in store for its clients this Christmas.
The Christmas menu features a special Christmas brunch, which is available on Dec 25 between 10am and noon. It also has Christmas Week Special and Christmas Afternoon Tea, which are available until Dec 25.
“What’s different this year is our Christmas Week Special which is served all day, whereas last year, we only had it for either lunch or dinner,” said Tradewinds Premium Goods Sdn Bhd (the franchise holder for Harrods Malaysia) marketing and business development manager Rosnah Abdullah.
She said diners also have an option of ordering from the a-la-carte or set menu.
After almost two long hours, due to eternal hours of food photography supervised by the Harrods team, our starved stomachs finally got to taste the appetiser of Smoked Fish Mousse with Citrus Dressing, prepared by chef de cuisine Tony Cham.
The refreshing appetiser under the Christmas Week Special, was prepared with smoked Australian fish and a blend of spices like thyme, garlic, shallots and parsley, served with an aromatic citrus dressing.
I absolutely loved the dressing for its refreshing burst of mixed citrus flavours which went perfectly well with the fish mousse.
“It is orange, lemon and lime mixed with dill, simmered with some sugar,” explained Cham.
While the reporters enjoyed the dish, it was quite a shame the photographers were not served alongside because the kitchen had not made enough dishes.
Surprised at the lack of food for the number of invited guests, we prompted the team to look into feeding our photographers as well.
As the meal continued, we had Roast Turkey Breast served with gravy, gratin potatoes, buttered brussels sprouts, honey-glazed carrots and cranberry sauce. The dish cost RM65 on a-la-carte.
The turkey serving is about 200g, which comes to about three to four slices of meat, while the cranberry sauce comes from a bottle of Christmas Cranberry Sauce with Port.
Surprisingly, the plates of turkey slices arrived minus the cranberry sauce which we had to request for several times before it arrived before us.
Although the sauce was a little thick, it went very well with the turkey.
Those who like more gravy with their turkey might find the amount served too little to go with all that meat.
Made using turkey bone, the sauce was savoury and the meat, juicy.
An alternative for the turkey is the Crumbed Fillet of Sole with Lemon Pepper Sauce, served with boiled potatoes, glazed carrots and braised fennel. The semi-fried fish dish was also lovely and is a great option for those who do not fancy turkey.
The Christmas Afternoon Tea set is delightful and fun.
I enjoyed the buttery English scones served with clotted cream, and Harrods’ strawberry and blueberry preserves.
There is also a selection of cakes and fruit tartlets, sandwiches to go along with your choice of beverage (coffee, tea or hot chocolate). It is priced at RM120 for two persons.
