IT IS that time of the year again to usher in the Lunar New Year. In preparation for the annual ritual of reunion dinners, family members from near and far will gather to kick off one of the most important celebrations in the Chinese calendar.
Housewives and female siblings would be slaving over the stove for hours to prepare six to eight festive dishes.
Nevertheless, things have changed since. Many families choose to have the reunion dinner at hotels and restaurants instead.
With this in mind, Hotel Armada Petaling Jaya welcomes the Year of the Dragon by dishing out traditional festive treats, all tailor-made to symbolise prosperity and opulence.
From today to Feb 5, start the New Year with a variety of treats at the Utara Coffee House.
Their buffet line will be filled to the brim with ‘good luck’ dishes for the reunion dinner such as Eight Treasure Shark Fin Soup, Braised Sea Cucumber with Green Vegetable and Mushroom, Lotus Leaf Rice, Braised Duck with Black Mushroom, Steamed Seabass with Ginger Sauce, Herbal Roasted Duck, Chinese Baked Salted Chicken with Herbs, Braised Chestnut Duck, Steamed Chicken with Ginger Sauce, Century Chicken Roll, Longevity Noodles, Wax Sausage with Fried Rice, and Sautéed Leek with Squid.
Western and Japanese dishes are also available which include Smoked Salmon Ravioli in Creamy Nage, Fillet De Boeuf with Peppercorn Sauce, Roasted Duck Roulade with Kumquat Sauce, Teriyaki Snow Fish, Kaki-Age, Donburi and Teppanyaki Fish. This buffet is priced at RM65++ per person.
Chinese sous chef Ang Kim Poh said guests would definitely like the steamed chicken because of its tender texture.
“In previous years, we have always had herbal chicken. We have also included Australian garoupa and sea bass which are not as tough as the ikan patin that we had served before,” said Ang.
The Chinese New Year Hi-Tea is also available at RM55++ on Jan 23 from noon to 4pm with scrumptious dishes such as Roast Duck with Plum Sauce, Steamed Fish with Ginger Sauce, Chinese New Year Fried Rice, Stir-Fried Clams with Peppers and a host of other Western, Malay and Japanese dishes.
Hotel Armada has an exciting selection of yee sang such as Fruitti Veggie Yee Sang, Salmon Yee Sang or Butterfish Yee Sang.
“Opt for the Japanese yee sang for something unique as it comes with idako (baby octopus), hotate (scallops) and kurage (jelly fish). What makes this dish even more unique is that it comes with deep-fried salmon skin and crispy tempura topped with special Japanese dressing, instead of the generic crispy crackers,” said executive chef Chew Teik Chye.
Chew and his team have whipped up four Prosperity set menus for your festive gatherings. Dine with their Blissful Abundance (RM788++), Hallmark of Achievement (RM888++) or Abundance of Jade (RM988) set menus.
You can also opt for the Harmonious Splender (RM1,688++) and dine on East meets West dishes. The set is for 10 people per table and consists of eight courses.
To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, Hotel Armada is offering HSBC credit card holder a 2+1 promotion (valid for adult price only) for its buffet dinner and 15% discount for a minimum booking of three tables for the Prosperity set menus. This offer will end on Feb 5.
