THERE is no doubt that Chong Kok Kopitiam in Klang is a well-known meeting place.
This decade-old melting pot is one place where you can see Malay, Chinese and Indian customers having their packed nasi lemak, half-boiled eggs and kaya butter toast with a cup of Kopi-O kau!
Best of all, it is a stone’s throw from the town’s train station and offers “quick fixes” at affordable prices.
As a matter of fact, half-boiled eggs, kaya toast and Kopi-O kau are close to every working man’s heart. And nobody does it better than Chong Kok.
I had heard some rave reviews about the coffee shop and decided to make a trip to the outlet over the weekend.
My wife, Michelle, and I drove from our home in Subang Jaya to get a taste of Chong Kok’s Kopi-O kau as well as their hallmark half-boiled eggs and kaya butter toast.
It took a while for us to locate the outlet and finally, after asking around, we made our way to the KTM station in Klang town.
From there, the next chore was to locate a parking bay as this part of town is usually packed to the brim with vehicles and pedestrians, especially during weekends.

We entered the shop, found a table and ordered the signature items offered there.
A cup of Kopi-O kau costs RM1.40, two half-boiled eggs came in at RM2 and the kaya butter toast cost RM1.80 per set.
So, how did this place fare?
On a scale of one to 10 on the Samo-scale, Chong Kok would rate a 7.5.
Service was prompt and the local coffee was pretty good.
If you decide to have a sip of Kopi-O and a slice of kaya butter toast at any coffee shop, be prepared to lower your expectations.

“Aiya Samo! The shop got cigarette butts littered all over its floor, the walls got cobwebs, my mee hailam was in a million pieces…”
Well, if you have issues with hygiene and cleanliness, take it up with the town council.
