THERE is a makan place called “Sambal Hijau” in Kampung Sungai Penchala near Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur which is worth a try.
If you are a big fan of nasi campur, this is one place that would generate a good impression.
It is perpetually packed with customers during lunch hour and if you are observant, you might chance upon some local celebrities and prominent public figures having their makan in this shop.
I was introduced to this eatery by Edmund Foo, a buddy of mine who is very fond of Malay food.
For starters, there is a huge selection of dishes comprising Minang-style cooking as well as freshly grilled fish.
To get started, I chose four dishes like the Terung Masak Sambal, Pucuk Paku Masak Lemak, Nangka Lemak, Paru Bersambal and a piece of curried chicken.
While the selection was impressive, taste-wise, I would rate it as average.
On the scale of 1-10, this place scores a 5.
The price for two plates of nasi campur including a piece of Ikan Cencaru Bakar (grilled torpedo trevally) came up to RM21 inclusive of two drinks.
Wide variety: A customer choosing from the dishes offered at Sambal Hijau.So, it is no surprise to see so many people making a beeline to this makan place as the pricing is quite tolerable by Kuala Lumpur’s standards.
Sambal Hijau (N 03 09 741, E 101 37 542) is located next to the Sungai Penchala mosque and caters to the lunch crowd and at night, the makan place serves fried dishes.
