IF YOU ever swing by Bentong town in Pahang, give Kow Po Kedai Kopi (N 03 31 339, E 101 54 649) a try.
This place is famous for its air batu campur and homemade ice-cream and is also a melting pot where you can see patrons of various races converging.
Located on the fringes of town, this coffee shop is situated next to the Hong Leong bank branch.
If you a miss a turn driving around this quaint little town (which is roughly about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur), do not despair because you can take the ‘Round Bentong’ town drive-by as the traffic system re-routes back towards Jalan Loke Yew, one the main streets in the area.
Basically, it is not hard to find this makan place as there had been numerous media articles about the coffeeshop.
Okay, when it comes to the main highlights, try the air batu campur. At RM4 a serving, it is one of the best around town.
My personal favourite is the coconut ice-cream as it is creamy and tasty and goes well with the air batu campur.
There are other flavours offered at this kedai kopi, yet, the coconut tops it all.
Kow Po, which is also the owner’s namesake (an old-timer who is very friendly and one of the few coffee shop owners who greets his customers), opens from 10am – 7pm and is closed on Mondays.
On how to get there, take the East Coast Highway from KL – Karak, exit at Bentong North interchange.
This coffeeshop is located seven kilometres from the highway exit.
