Restoran Kampar Old Town in USJ11/3J,
Subang Jaya.

A FATEFUL encounter in the elevator with Vasthu Sastra guru T. Selva led me to a makan place in USJ11/3J, Subang Jaya.

Selva had mentioned Kampar Old Town (N 03 02.832, E 101 34.827) restaurant, which is located beside the famous Ah Yoke chicken rice in this township.

Eh Sam ah, you should try the food at this place, I see people queuing up everyday la.

I took the cue from the master and decided to give it a try on a weekend.

Together with my wife Michelle, I made my way to USJ 11 and the first thing I did was to ask for a bowl of curry laksa.

A pony-tailed waiter who took my order was hesitant.

This triggered a reaction from the lady boss who told me that curry laksa (RM5.80) is served only on selected days and this includes weekends.

Michelle ordered a bowl of Kampar ‘special’ prawn noodles with braised pork trotters (RM8.50) and the owner of the shop also recommended a bowl of mixed fishballs at RM4 per serving.

I found the curry laksa to be just average. The taste was there, but it just lacked the punch and a good sambal to complement it.

As for the special prawn mee, I would safely say that it is nothing compared to what we had in Penang.

Kampar is known for their Kam Pou Yee Yeen Fun (fishball noodles).

And judging from what we had (the key ingredients for fishball noodles), I would say that they hit the mark with their Kampar noodles.

This makan place is open from 7.30am to 4.30pm daily and to the social media savvy individual, you can find Kampar Old Town restaurant on Facebook.
