Recipe Ingredient

  • 250g plain flour
  • 160g glutinous rice flour
  • 1½ tbsp wheat flour (tang mein fun)
  • 1½ tsp dried instant yeast granules
  • 240ml water
  • 160g sugar
  • 2½ tbsp oil
  • A little red food colouring

Instructions

  1. Sift flour into a mixing bowl. Pour in water and add yeast. Leave aside for about 45-55 minutes.
  2. Sift in remaining flour and add glutinous rice flour and wheat flour.
  3. Stir in sugar, colouring and oil. Mix and knead to a soft dough.
  4. Divide the dough into 50g pieces. Roll each portion into a ball. Place the balls of dough on a small piece of banana leaf. Leave aside to rise until doubled in size.
  5. Steam the pieces of risen dough over high heat for 15 minutes. Remove and leave aside to cool.
