Stall in Jalan San Peng serves fresh and crisp capati

I was introduced to this dish some years ago while nursing my broken left leg at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

A group of Sikh volunteers came around giving out capatis to the patients at the orthopaedic unit.

I, too, was given one and my late father, who came to visit me almost everyday, also enjoyed the free meal. For nearly a month, I enjoyed the healthy and freshly-made capatis.

Now, fast-foward to the present and let me enlighten you about the capati stall off Jalan San Peng in Kuala Lumpur. It is named ?Tiger Jit Singh capati?.

I had been planning to visit this place for a long time and when I had the opportunity, I wasted no time.

Jalan San Peng is a long street stretching from Jalan Pudu to Jalan Loke Yew. The best way to get to this place is by taking the LRT and getting off at the Pudu station as it is difficult to find parking here.

Okay, let’s get down to the food served at Tiger Jit.

Simple yet good: Capati with chickencurry and dhall.

I ordered two pieces of capati with a plate of chicken curry and a glass of teh tarik.

My bill came up to RM10.50, which I think is a bit steep for a roadside stall.

The capati was fresh and more importantly, service was also prompt at this stall.

My benchmark for capati is Santa stall off Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and when I compare Tiger Jit’s fare, I would say that the score is 5 out of 10 on the Samo-scale.

I found the chicken curry just nice and not too salty while the dhall curry goes well with the capatis.

While enjoying my capati, I saw a veteran entertainer who became famous for his Malay love songs.

And right across my table, I also spotted a former sports writer who was attached to an English daily which is over a century old.
