THE minute you taste the Argentinian Red Shrimp, the sweet, buttery prawn is bound to titillate your taste buds.
Exclusively caught in the cold and deep clean waters of Golfo de San Jorge, a narrow area in Southern Argentina, these wild shrimps are known as the world’s sweetest shrimps.
Jogoya Buffet Restaurant in Starhill Gallery, however, has taken great pains to bring in these crustaceans and create scrumptious delights.
Head chef Sixtus Bakansing said it was difficult to find the shrimp in the market and it was also costly.
“Here, customers get to enjoy the shrimp dishes and they also have the option of choosing from eight different kitchens at the restaurant,” he said.
Each counter will present one or two dishes and the menu will be rotated each day to ensure that customers get to sample every dish that the restaurant has to offer.
According to Chef Bakansing, one of the must-tries is the Baked Argentinian Shrimp with Egg Mayo and Cheese.
“The cheese enhances the flavour of the shrimp and you can taste the sweetness of the prawns,” he said.
Bakansing also received feedback from customers on some of the dishes.
He said most customers loved the Argentina Red Shrimp Sashimi as it was the best way to experience the true taste of the sought-after shrimp.
The spicy Argentinian Butterfried Shrimp in Carpaccio Sauce is also guaranteed to leave diners wanting more.
The sauce — a mixture of onion, garlic, red chillies, lime juice, vinegar and some basic seasoning — has a nice, tangy flavour and when served together with the Blowtorch Shrimp, is sure to satisfy the most discerning of Asian palates.
If you’re looking for something a little more fiery, try the Grilled Argentinian Red Shrimp with Chilli Mayo.
“The mayonnaise is mixed together with bird’s eye chillies which have been deseeded and chopped. This is actually a milder version. I used to make it really spicy but I have toned it down to suit more genteel palates,” added Bakansing.
Western cuisine lovers should definitely try the Spaghetti with the Argentinian Shrimp in Cheese Sauce.
Bakansing said the shrimps were just a small part of the buffet, which consists of over 400 dishes.
This month, the restaurant is offering the Alaskan King Crab promotion.
“The choices that we offer cannot be found elsewhere and all this comes at an affordable price.
“Most of our customers enjoy the Japanese and Chinese kitchens because of our variety of sushi and sashimi,” he added.
The buffet is priced at RM78++ (lunch), RM88++ (dinner) and RM78++ (supper).
The current promotion is priced at RM10++ for every male with a full-paying female diner.
