FAMOUS Seremban Favourites is a makan place that needs little introduction, but for the uninitiated, it is not located in Seremban.

The restaurant was featured in three food-related television series, in newspaper food reviews and countless food blogs.

So, where is this place?

It is located at Dataran Sunway Mas in Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya (GPS 03 07.112, E 101 35.934).

I came to know about this place after being treated to a hearty meal by my buddies Eddie “Reel Tales” Chua and Jacobus “Pub Crawl” Raj.

Okay, what is good?

I was told that the Hakka Mee (RM5.50 for a large bowl) is something that is worth a try.

How was it?

Well, I must say that the noodle dish tasted more like the mee poh which you can find in Johor Baru and even in Singapore.

To me, it lacked the oomph compared to some Hakka mee that I have tried and the yuk sui (minced meat sauce) was too salty for my liking.

But I cannot complain about the large and generous portions.

Now, the real winner in this restaurant is their char siew (BBQ pork).

At RM70 per kg, I would simply use the famous Phua Chu Kang quote: “Don’t play-play ah!!”.

Compared to many char siew that I have tried, Famous Seremban Favourite’s would easily score a nine out of 10 on the Samo-scale.

With a crunchy and perfectly roasted surface, the meat literally “melts” in your mouth.

Thanks to its high fat content, this char siew is “perfect”.

Famous Seremban Favourites siew yuk (roast pork), on the other hand, was an utter disappointment.

So, that said, I won’t go into the details.

Later, while talking to the restaurant’s owner, he told me that he specialises in Hakka-style dishes such as Loh Shue Fun (rat-tailed noodles) and Hakka Mee.

“I am from Seremban but I am not Hakka,” said the friendly guy.

After some probing, I found out that he is a Teochew guy and that numerous food bloggers have featured his restaurant.

Famous Seremban Favourites is best visited during lunch hour.

Just make it a point to get there early as parking bays are scarce in the area.
