Big plans are in store for Delicious. If
you are a die-hard fan of the café and
wish more were around, well, wish
granted. Delicious is set to pop up in other
parts of the Klang Valley within the next
few months.
Over lunch at Delicious in Bangsar Village 2 one weekday, Abby Leong of The Delicious Group Sdn Bhd said that the café’s fast food sibling, D’lish, was also set to open elsewhere.
D’lish is currently at Bangsar Village 1 and plans are afoot for at least four other outlets and four more Delicious cafes. By early August, Mid Valley Megamall would have welcomed another new tenant in the form of D’lish.
“The expansion is possible because Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) now owns a 51% stake in the Group. With the strong financial backing, we are already realising Benjamin’s dream,” said Leong, referring to Benjamin Yong, the founder of Delicious.

Loads of pesto: Mascarpone Pesto
Chicken also packs another surprise -
mascarpone cheese tucked under the
skin. |
It all started when Yong returned from Australia where he had earned a degree in psychology and teamed up with his mother, Helen Read, founder of the Ms Read chain, and Leong, her childhood friend.
“By putting our heads together, we miraculously opened Delicious in 1 Utama within a matter of weeks. Helen and I just wanted a cosy spot to have some traditional English tea and look where Delicious is now,” gushed Leong.
From a nook within 1 Utama, Delicious is now a full-fledged café at the mall’s Phase 2.
Its popularity stems from several reasons, good food, affordable prices and feasible location included. Then there are menus that change every six months to offer diners variety.
One new addition is the Roasted Vegetable Salad with baby spinach and Oriental dressing (RM18.90++). A combination of zucchini, sweet potato, aubergines and baby spinach, the salad came with liberal blocks of feta.
“The crunchy bits are chopped garlic and we offer baby spinach to give a different edge to the salad,” said Leong.

There goes the diet: (top) Peach Frangipane with
Vanilla Ice Cream and Mango Cheesecake with
lemongrass-infused mango chutney. |
Delicious executive sous chef Suhaimi Hashim was busy in the kitchen handling the lunch crowd but we still enjoyed his fuss-free dishes, prepared more with the combination of ingredients in mind rather than artistic appeal.
Spicy Crab Meat Linguini (RM21.90++) tossed with roasted cherry tomatoes and arugula looked deceptively plain. But the pasta had a unique flavour and the sprinkling of pine nuts gave the dish some crunch.
It must have been tedious work but the Mascarpone Pesto Chicken (RM36.90++) served with fried potatoes and asparagus, was worth the effort. The cheese was slipped under the chicken’s skin, bathed above with pesto.
Among the new desserts were Peach Frangipane with vanilla ice cream (RM10.90++) and Mango Cheesecake with lemongrass-infused mango chutney (RM11.90++). Both were heavenly.
The latest thirst quencher was the Watermelon and Lychee Blast (RM9.90++), great for those hot afternoons.
Delicious also serves Traditional English Afternoon Tea For Two (RM49.90++), daily from 3pm to 6pm with warm scones, finger sandwiches and duck confit, chocolate truffles and a choice of any cake on display.
Breakfast is available from 9am to 6pm on weekends and public holidays.
